Membership Support

Through annual global conferences, special interest bulletins, newsletters and the FAWCO website, FAWCO offers its member clubs networking and best practices sharing around the world—making clubs stronger and fostering communities that become a global resource. Development workshops bring expertise and knowledge in leadership, management, fundraising and communication skills to  member clubs and their members, enabling them to contribute to the global community. FAWCO provides its member clubs with a platform for global interaction.

US Issues

FAWCO serves as a nonpartisan organization to keep the public up-to-date on issues important to Americans living and working overseas. FAWCO was instrumental in creating the Americans Abroad Caucus in 2007 and participates actively in Overseas Americans Week in Washington, DC, advocating for the rights and concerns of overseas Americans. FAWCO's alumnae organization in North America, FAUSA, offers overseas Americans help in repatriation.

UN Advocacy

FAWCO is a UN-accredited nongovernmental organization (NGO) with special consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). FAWCO has UN representatives in New York, Geneva and Vienna and holds leadership positions on the NGO Committees on the Status of Women (New York, Geneva, Vienna) and the NGO Committee on Migration (New York). These representatives advocate on behalf of FAWCO for issues specifically related to women and children in the areas of education, environment, health and human rights and seek to influence the UN agenda.

Global Issues

FAWCO global issues teams, together with the UN representatives, raise awareness on the issues supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—which set the UN agenda to the year 2030—on education (SDG 4), environment (SDG 13), health (SDG 3) and human rights (SDG 5) and provide an avenue on the member club and club member levels for action to improve the lives of women and girls worldwide. A Target Program focuses on one of these issues following a three-year cycle to increase the impact of local clubs. The current program is Education: Empowering Women and Girls through Knowledge and Skills. The current FAWCO Target Project Hope Beyond Displacement is a sustainable investment by FAWCO member clubs to empower women and girls. FAWCO's sister organization, The FAWCO Foundation, raises and administers funds for FAWCO's international philanthropic goals and awards grants to projects championed by member clubs.
